Considering all aspects, the automobile has affected the daily life of people more than bicycles and airplanes have done.

In fact, going by bicycle is quite similar to walking by foot. Bicycles utilize human propulsion to move. They can only carry light weights and reach near destinations. Airplanes, instead, cover very far distance Flying is very expensive and demanding. It is uneconomical and unpractical for everyday movements. Thus, the majority of people take a plane occasionally, when they require to reach farther destinations.

On the contrary, cars adapt to a vast array of different needs and situations. They are easy and cheap to use and maintain. They can carry heavy loads and host many passengers at the same time. They serve both to cover farther distances, and more commonly, to reach short distances.

After their appearance, cars made possible to very easily join different sections inside a town, connect villages in rural areas to major cities, link different cities and even countries. This has allowed knowledge to spread fast, people and goods to move from one place to another, the population to boost and thrive.

In conclusion, the diffusion of cars has contributed to shape the society worldwide, changing economic and social patterns, customs and ideas. However, in spite of the many positive outcomes, some negative consequences have ensued from the diffusion of cars too.

Since cars are so versatile, cheap and user-friendly, people have become dependent on them. All along the twenty’s century, humans got lazier and more overweight than in the past. One hand, they avoid walking as much as possible, as they can easily drive wherever they want. On the other hand, they can easier and faster access to food both in supermarkets and restaurants, which they conveniently drive to.

Moreover, aside from the recent electrical cars, automobiles pollute the environment, a lot, in particular, the air of large overcrowded cities. For that, they represent a serious threat for the health of people and, nowadays, one of the major problems to solve for future generations.
