Fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas, are used in many countries. The use of alternative sources of energy, including wind and solar power, is encouraged. Is this trend a positive or negative development?
The common use of fossil fuels has been causing many problems for the environment. So it is necessary to find other sources of power like renewable energy, and I believe that this proposal is beneficial.
Wind, solar power, and so on seems to be more environmentally friendly than other kinds of energy. However, it is undeniable that some developing countries use coal, oil or natural gas as main sources of power because they only need unsophisticated and cheap equipment to harness those. In contrast, consequences on the environment resulting from the use of fossil fuels are too harmful. For instance, severely disasters such as droughts, floods or hurricanes often happen year by year, which can bring huge burden for governments to resolve the negative effects.
Moreover, the use of renewable energy can be more economic benefit. Indeed, countries which lack natural resources can save much money when investing in these sources rather than they have to expense huge fund to import coal, natural gas, oil, etc and then they are able to depend on other countries. Taking Japan as a typical example, although this nation is the lack of the fuels, their technological achievements are high and so they can produce energy themselves from alternative power. As a result, they can only supply energy for whole the country, but also make a huge profit on export energy to other countries.
In conclusion, I admit that to harness alternative energy requires complicated and expensive tools but I believe that the use of them brings more advantageous for societies than their limitations.
