元日

古来より1年の最初の日である1月1日「元日」は、全てのものに命を与えてくれる歳神〔としがみ〕様をおまつりするための特別な行事が行われていました。

1948年に「年のはじめを祝う日」として法律で国民の祝日と制定されました。

New Year's Day

On January first what we call Ganjitsu which was enacted first day of the yearrfrom ancient era took place special ritual which made an offering for Toshigami who gives a live for all organisms.

This day was enacted national holiday by legal as the day to celebrate for the first day of the year.
