I went from store to store looking for the things that we needed the most. The streets were completely deserted and littered with rubbish and supermarket carts. I stood in the middle of the street while newspapers flew under the fleeting sunlight and grey, empty skyscrapers were silhouetted against the increasingly reddish horizon. I realized how little time I had. I needed to return before the sunset. I ran to the nearest pharmacy and I threw as many antibiotics as I could find into my backpack. I went out and started racing towards the old truck. I panicked when I realized that a mild stench of blood started to become noticeable in the hot summer breeze. They were coming. Luckily, the truck started immediately when I turned on the ignition switch. The humming sound of the motor reassured me.
