I believe that being honest in a relationship, which can be either friends or an engaged couple, is one of the most important things to achieve a good and healthy relation. First, in a relationship telling the truth it’s a way to get the confidence of the other person in order to trust each other whenever they need it. For example, if you are in trouble you can say it to your partner, who will listen to you and he’ll tell you what you need to hear.

Second, you can trust that the other person won’t be hypocrite with you, which could bring a lot of benefits in the future avoiding arguing frequently. You can trust that if you do something wrong or annoying to your partner he/she will tell you, so then you would be more careful in the future. This is one of the reasons why I differ with people who think that reasonable lies are needed in a relationship, the more they tell lies, the easier it is to live with them. If a couple keep telling lies after some years, in a point all his conversation could turn around a lie, so then they may won’t know if trust or not in what are you listening.

Specifically, in a love relationship, before the marriage it’s very important to be completely honest because this person could be the one who are you living with the rest of your life and you need to know exactly how he/she is. Nobody wants to live with a liar.  At the moment you discover that the other person is a lair a lot of things may come to your mind like infidelity or something like that.
