In the present work we intend to describe the policies of port expansion in Colombia, through the knowledge of the history, evolution, current status and future of the same. The different policies are presented in a document CONPES (national council for economic and social policy) where everything related to the proposed new port policy is exposed, with their respective laws (or reforms that want to do the same), plus the explanation of the action plan of the new port expansion policy through different projects on specific ports, which will help the country to be at the forefront with its surroundings. Within the background are based upon policies implemented other countries and the process that took Colombia to these shows. Within the trend will further the implementation of new rules and laws in the country and port issues and from there follow the law effective 1st 1991 that is still ruling the port expansion plans, then the current state of port expansion policy in Colombia is widely described strategies and projects that were asked in the most recent expansion and that even in the current year are being developed and to conclude that the future of these policies port expansion shows the country, showing that the most important challenge will be to meet demand loads and channels and access roads to facilitate the export and import processes.
