The consumption of Fish and meat are closely relevant to people's daily life. The chart above demonstrates the changes of the consumption of fish and various kinds of meat in a European country from 1979 to 2004. It is obvious that beef was most popular in 1979, when people ate almost 220 grams per person per week. This number was about fourfold as many as fish. However after 1988, it fell down fast to only 100 grams per person per week in 2004.
As for chicken and lamb, the consumptions of them basically had the same starting point around 150 grams per person per week in 1979 but they had different fates afterwards. While the consumption of chicken surpassed beef arter 1988 and finally reached over 250 grams per person per week in 2004, the consumption of lamp just kept decreasing to about 60 grams per person per week in 2004.
Fish, the most unpopular one in this country, slightly decline from about 60 grams per person per week in 1979 to 40 grams.
To summarize, chicken was more and more popular and took hold of market share of other 3 kinds of food.
