Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I wrote my last diary entry. I started working harder on my career so I needed to borrow some time from English practice. Recently, I've been thinking about how I could merge my architecture career with my language studies and I've decided to translate my architecture notes into English. Thanks in advance for correcting any mistakes. And, if you are an architecture fan, just enjoy!

Tradition streets system collapsed because of two reasons: the wheel traffic increased in little time and cities needed more space for the people who were migrating from the countryside into the cities.

Modernism proposed two solutions to this problem. The first one was to separate pedestrian traffic from wheel traffic so that pollution would be an important health issue (we are talking about the early 20th century). The second one would be to separate buildings from the streets themselves - entrances would be inside the buildings in the inner courtyards, not directly on the sidewalk.

In Spain, the Plan Cerdá was born. The corners would no longer be 90º, but have a chamfer so that circulations would be easier and cleaner. The buildings would not be the entire apple, only 2 sides would be constructed to create public areas and green spaces for public usage. Finally, every single conjunction on Barcelona extension would be different based on the immediate context.

In France, Eugene Hernard appears. Utopian plans were made and wheel transit research was taken. Public spaces and massive buildings merged to create wide venues with a great amount of vegetation on sight.
