I would like to talk about a topical question that you could hear in every bar or cafe in Spain. I know that it isn’t an uplifting issue but it’s the reality nowadays.
Firstly, I will talk about the relation between banks and government and corruption.
Secondly, I am going to talk about the population situation.
In the third point, I will give my opinion about aspects which it should change immediately, I mean, facts which are inadmissible.
And finally, I will say what I think that it is going to happen in a nearby future.
To begin with I have to say that we have got used to talking about corruption in my country like if it was situation normal, even the two main Government parties have been reporting for more than 10 years about anticorruption agreement, which nowadays doesn’t exist. Meanwhile, more and more of these scandals appear like mushrooms. Pockets of politicians are full with citizen’s money. Is there anything more lucrative than being a politician? Yes. Being a former politician. If you “have worked hard” at the Government, later, you will be able earn much more money when you become an advisor in an important bank or in a multinational energy. Furthermore, if are bad luck and police grab you, you only will be expelled of your political party and you will have to refund the half of money that you have robbed, since the rest of the money will be been spent or it will be in a hidden account. Because besides, in Spain, politicians have friends among the judges, and if there is any annoyed judge, their own colleagues disable him. Or the cause will have prescribed! Ah! and if you manage badly a Bank, don’t worry about it! The Government will recover it with people’s money.
If I had to define in a word the attitude of population nowadays in my country about the economy I would say “desperate” The percentage of unemployed is 24% . Miles of companies have closed down over the last few years and a lot of families have lost their houses. Many people live off their parents, pensioners or retired to be able to feed up their sons. Those who know someone abroad have migrated and new graduates goes away to Germany or U.K later of studying for ages in Spain. How many excellent brains won’t come back? Likely, a lots
There are so many bad procedures to change that I don’t know how I start. The way I see it the first thing it would be reform our Constitution. Our Chart was made in 1978 and almost hasn't changed from then. If you have a look about it you will notice that there are a lot of statements of intents however only some facts concrete. On the other hand, some regions in Spain have too much power and independence, for example about education or health, and this should change if we want to have a strong country in the future. Besides, corrupt politicians should have punishments stronger. There is to stop evictions. If banks have received money from the Government or Europe , they should lend it later, don’t you think?
From last European elections a new political party is gaining followers, I am talking about Podemos. Some people think that this party is a threat for democracy because shares some ideas with Rafael Correa o Evo Morales, other people are agree with them but they think that their project is utopian. But the truth is that most of people are tired of current politicians and there is little to lose and much to win. And I really think that this new political party will win next elections and my country will improve, in spite of I don’t know if I will be in Spain to see it.
