The lecture and reading were explaining the different opinions created when an economic working system is based on 4 days-week work. According to both, this new working system will change the company dynamic regarding employee's attention to their jobs, unemployment rate, and longer time for working to individual initiatives.
In the reading, it is explained that the reduction of hour work per week in the company will have a really positive impact on job performance. People will be more alert of what they are doing and, they will, in consequence, more effective. This will increase the companies' profit. In opposition, the lecture denies this statement considering that such profits will be cut off due to an increase in health insurance cost or other expenses related to more training, office supplies and computers.
The reading also suggests that the employment rate will be reduced in the country. This is because more people will be working in the same company, so they will be more changes for people to get better jobs. The lectures, on the other hand, describes how it may not be correct. That will be happening, according to the lecture, is this situation will create a lot of economic insecurity on workers. The companies may start speculating about hours shift of each employee as a consequence some workers may have 4 days of work, while others may decide to work overtime.
Third and last statement of the reading that the lecture contradicts is how a reduction of hours per week in a company will let to workers to have more free time for themselves. Workers will have more free time to focus on a personal task or personal projects and it may help them to become more economically independent. However, the reading disagrees with this statement saying that employees will be at risk and they won't find economic stability at all. The lecture says that it will be harder for workers to get a promotion knowing the commitment to the company will be reduced if they accepted to work fewer hours per week.
