Task: Write an essay.
Some people believe that it is good for a country to host a major sport competition. Others think it causes many problems for the country.
Discuss both points of view and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

To any city in the world, the celebration of an international sport festivity such as World Cups (WC) or Olympic Games (OG) are always a reason of joy and proud but there is always much more behind one month of smiling faces, sometimes it revels the weakest matters of a society in all levels, it reflects the nature of a nation itself. Hosting any sport event is a challenge because it involves to face the world with the very best that a people has.

Such is the example of China that in 2008 gave us “the best OG in human history” that immediately located Beijing in the centre of the World and without question helped China to be the 1st economic power 5 years later. The social stability is latent in the country of the dragon. On the other hand, to host an event of that size does not guarantee the happiness of the people.

Last spring, Brazil welcomed the FIFA-WC but unfortunately it showed that the country had many social issues to attend, like security, sanity or civility and that was quite evident during the protest caused by many financial problems originated by the government’s attempt to accomplish with this international task that has left sequels that many experts assure it will need some time to solve.

To sum up, we can see that to accept an event of that extent can be risky or completely the contrary, it can help the country to reach its ambitions in any matter. This events may expose the reality of the country, but at the end the promise to the people remains, that everything will be better if they are willing to invest.
