It is a well-known fact that non-verbal communication is as important as the simple fact of speaking, if not more, and we don’t have to mistakenly refer to it as body language, because is a lot more than that.

For instance, non-verbal communication may include aspects like the use of voice, touch, distance or physical appearance. Even written texts have non-verbal elements, such as style, spatial arrangement and the layout of a page. As infants,  we all have started to communicate with our face and gestures rather than speaking.

Because of different cultures, the importance of non-verbal communications may change around the world, as well as its meaning. However, we can interact with other people and let them know what we need or think about something via non-verbal communication.

To sum up, think of it as an important amount of data that you are offering to your conversational partner, and care about it like you care about your speech, at least the part that you can control.
