Hello there !
I won't try to lost readers in complicated technical stuff, but really, GNU/Linux is a great system when you have to use languages with non-roman alphabet. Actually, I refresh my Russian skills (and, believe me, I'm really rusty !) and begin to learn Japanese.
And GNU/Linux is really an amazing Operating System for this purpose. With only two strokes ('meta'+space in my personnal settings), I can write ひらがな, カタカナ and even 漢字 without problem... ЙЦУКЕНГШЩЗ of course cyrillic alphabet :).
Other big advantage of GNU/Linux: if you care for your digital privacy, it's a deal. If you're concern by your data, leave Microsoft, Apple and Google. Actually, I'm using a lot the principle of digital signature with RSA keys. The purpose of RSA assymetric encryption is relying on the safety of your private key. In windows and other closed sources system, it is said that backdoors exist. And if someone have access to your private keys, then everything you sign or encrypt is really compromised. With GNU/Linux (or FreeBSD, another great Unix flavor) you can be sure that your keys are a lot more safe. You have access to the 'guts' of your system.
Other advantage: if you install any popular GNU/Linux distribution (Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Mint, ...) you have all the useful software in a row: word processing, Images/photo editing, ... If you have oding hobbies, then you will be glad to find your favorite language availabe too (even old language like LISP is here :) ).
I could speak also about one of my greatest passion : digital painting. You have a wondeful software for that : Krita. And did I mention that my graphic tablet (a standard Wacom) is recognized in a breeze when I plug it ? (remark: Krita is also availabe for Windows. Don't hesitate to take a peek.)
So just give it a try ;)
