Recently I've been translating Japanese pop song lyrics to English for practice. I'm enjoying it, I think it's my thing. But everytime I try to do that, there are some difficult problems I have to face .

One of them is a Metaphor. As you know, in  lyrics, not only that but any literary stuffs, we can often find  metaphors, which always rack my brain. For expample there is a sentence "走る街 hashiru machi", if I translated that , it would be like "running city". I don't think it does make sense. At least that doesn't have nuance anymore ,which the original wants to express. Or people might think that it would be a city which is famous as jogging or something. "hashiru machi" is not even an Idiom. It's a metaphor which sounds a bit strange even for me. But as a Japanese I can understand the nuance what the poet wants to say. It's like "City is full of things being busy"  like cars, trains, people or something like that. Maybe I could write that like "a bustling city", but if I wrote it like that, the metaphor which the original has is gone.

What should I do with that, or what can I do? I don't know really, maybe I have to change the subject, from lyrics to something like news article or... I don't know. Or maybe I still can keep enjoying my thing , I mean translating lyrics, trampling the nuance and even the author who made a nice metaphor.
