I was finished my school in Russia that's way I would like to compare system education in England and Russia. In England school compulsory is for 5-16 year, whereas by law in Russia children between 7 and 17 years of age must receive a full-time education. Both in England and in Russia the vast of majority over 90% of students attend state school and about 10% go to private school. The school year in the UK runs from September to July and is usually divided into three terms of approximately 13 weeks each. In Russia, on the other hand, students go to school from September to end of the May and have four terms where is each about 8 weeks. In the UK education system is divided in three steps such as primary, secondary and high school, in contrast, the Russian education system has only two steps : primary school(7-12) and high school ( from 12-18 years old). In the same way, UK and Russian school are largely co-educational (at any rate I do know some school in Russia where boys and girls no attend together). Also in the both country all school have to follow National Curriculum. As in the UK, Russian school have similar subjects such as mathematics, science, history, geography, physical education, music and art. School students all over the world are similar in that they have to take exams. In England at the age of 16, 17 and 18 students take exams. In Russia is a bit different in that they pass exams in 16 and 18. In the same way, in both countries good results in exams are required to go to university.
