The aim of this thesis is to investigate the Swedish and Polish word-formation and the mechanisms by which they form new words. The subject of research is the technique of creating new words like composition and analysis of the ways a translation of the Swedish compound words into Polish. In Swedish language, composition is the most ordinary and productive way to create new words in comparison with Polish language. Analysis of the Swedish compound words and their Polish equivalents is based on the book by Jens Lapidus Snabba Cash. Using the original- and translated version there were collected 200 Swedish compound words and their equivalents in the Polish language. The results of the analysis show that the Swedish compound words are translated not only by one technique, but there are plenty of them, it can be word for word, or using phrases such as nominal phrases with attributes belonging to different parts of speech. This technique is most often used in translation of Swedish compounds. Besides the nominal phrase, the translator also uses this technique as a paraphrase of the Swedish compounds to the sentence as yet another way of putting the meaning of the Swedish compounds.
