Myth--The Archer And The Suns

Hi, i'm trying to translate a Chinese myth in my own words. Please help correct my errors. Thanks for any replies.

In ancient times of Monarch Yao(尧), there were ten suns in the sky. They, in fact, were all fire birds with three legs perching on a magic tree in the very end of East Sea. It’s said that the ten suns took the duty of giving proper heat to the earth by taking turns to fly through the sky. In another word, there had to be only one sun in the sky each day. With the mercy of suns, all living things in the earth thrived. But one day, the ten Birds wanted to show up at the same time. Suddenly, the sky was so bright and hot just like a furnace. The ten flying fire balls burned everything. Rivers dried up and trees fired up. People couldn’t bear any longer. Monarch Yao was very concerned. He ordered to search the whole realm for a true hero who dared to shoot the suns. Finally, a young archer, Hou Yi(后羿) stood out. He was a marksman and promised to save his people from fire. Hou Yi then carried a five-ton giant bow and ten half-ton arrows to the top of a high cliff. He exhausted his full strength to shoot down nine suns. The left one was just frightened and begged Hou Yi to spare it. It promised to fulfill its duty with?due?diligence till the end of time. Hou Yi agreed and left his tenth arrow on the cliff to warn the sun to keep its promise. Since then, we got only one punctual sun.
