Actually, the below writing is based on my reply to a comment by a Mixxer friend on my previous writing "Communist China?"
As you can see, we can discuss such matters openly here in China, which was probably unthinkable 30 years ago. The only thing we should't do here and today is to say "Down with XXX" openly on the street. :)
As always, your corrections and comments are welcome!

Hi.
Thanks for your input.
Keep using an old term is one thing, holding to the out-dated view is another. I just feel surprised that so many Americans who have never even been to China talk about China so negatively.
I do agree with you that the political activities are basically in the hands of the CPC party. However, things are changing and changing so fast that it's impossible for the hands to hold tight as fists any more. CPC has been making adjustments and compromises continually. The non-official media including websites, forums, blogs and instant chatting softwares are playing a big role as a standby force. Like I said, things are improving, especially after the new president Xi Dada came to office.
I am aware of the protesting in Hongkong. On one hand, I feel that a promise should be kept as a promise. On the other hand, I do share some people's concern that HK might ultimately separate from China if some opposition forces take over the governing. Yes, whatever the concern, modifying or breaking a promise is not appropriate.
Speaking of the political system reform, there are many different views in China. We are not satisfied with what we have now and most of us aspire to a proven democratic system in China. However, we don't have confidence in the American-style democracy. People often cite the Philipines, India, Liberia, and even Taiwan as negative examples of western democracy. Personally, I feel that mainland China probably should learn from Singapore or some northern European countries.
