The second story is about how I overcome my biggest fear. I used to be afraid of speaking in public because I considered myself a bad speaker since I had failed in many speech competitions in the past. Those experiences even influenced my social skills because I started to be afraid to talk to different people, especially strangers. Besides, I am afraid to speak English because of my accent, which is deeply influenced by my Filipino maid for many years when I was young. But instead of overlooking my shortcoming, I tried to make some changes. I decided to be a saleswoman as my first job in a department store and talked to different people every day. After I had made some progress, I found a job that requires me to talk with my clients in English. Finally, I took the challenge of being the protagonist of my graduation performance as an opportunity to twist my shortcoming, and as the result, I overcame my fear in front of thousands of audiences. I understand that the best way to lift your uneasiness isn’t avoiding your fear, but exposing yourself to it. I bear this value in my mind all the time.
