Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in modern societies. Coffee is not only important because of its boozy properties, it also has a really interesting social connotation. Many cities around the world have coffee shops where people can escape from their busy life, these places are perfect spots for social interaction. It is really common in nowadays to meet old friends or new people around a coffee table. Intellectuals and politicians in Europe and America select these calm spots to talk about literature, government, or the art of living. Definitely, coffee is not a common product.

Coffee is not only important in urban areas, its sociological nature has transpassed time and distance.  For example, Colombia, my native country, has strongly developed since the beginning of the XX century a whole culture and singular landscape because of coffee. In the Andean mountains far away from crowded cities, people has developed certain features that only is possible due to coffee production.  Peasants carry on their "fique" baskets must of the time to be ready when they are called to work on the coffee's plantation. Jeeps are the commonest cars in the area because these are strong enough to deal with the roughness of the roads while carrying heavy coffee sacks. People drinks coffee as it were water, non associating it with energetic properties at all. Fresh coffee beans are placed on almost every street in every town to be dried out by the sun, and its aroma spreads everywhere. Because of this and many other reasons, coffee is a symbol of identity in many rural areas in Colombia. Social identity around coffee is so important that the UNESCO recognized in 1994 the Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia (CCLC) as the world heritage. To Summarize, Coffe is not only important to rush our pace during our modern days, it is also important because it connects people and enriches culture and world diversity.
