Uldus gave a speech about a very interesting topic: using photos to lay open the stereotypes related to nationalities, genders etc. This is a very eye-catching topic, therefore, it easily attracted audience’s attention. Uldus used her project Desperate Romantics as the mainline: she showed the pictures one by one, and explained the backstories. Since the mainline is very clear, audience can follow her speech easily. Uldus used puns, changed her pitch to imitate the security guard, and made fun of herself; these all made her speech more interesting. I particularly like her final action of taking off the hat--it is a symbolic gesture, which represents making changes.
However, Uldus did not point out, let alone emphasize, the idea that she tried to convey until the end of the speech. She could have mentioned it at the beginning of the speech, for example, “I started ... to lay open so many stereotypes about nationalities, genders, and social issues, and I am doing it to call on people who trap themselves in certain stereotypes to make some changes.” I think it will be more memorable to make a point at the beginning and mention it again in the end.
That being said, Uldus gave a very interesting and inspiring speech: clear mainline and efficient public speaking silks. Hope both her photos and speech will motivate people to break the stereotypes and make changes.
