Today i saw the movie Still Alice in the theater. The film is about Alice, a renowned linguist that is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer´s disease. During the movie we follow the struggle of both, the character and her family, to accept the diagnosis and deal with the rapid evolution of the disease.
In one of my favorite scenes, Alice is giving a speech about Alzheimer and she says that she found herself learning the art of losing everyday. Because everyday she is losing memories, that are her most precious possessions. Therefore, she´s losing herself, bit by bit.
Julianne Moore plays the lead role majestically, and her perfomance was awarded with an academmy award. The supporting cast is very competent as well and the same can be said about the direction.
As my grandmother also suffers from Alzheimer, I was particulary touched by the story. Due to my personal background, I could really empathize with the suffering of Alice´s family. Altought it brought me to tears several times, I really liked the movie and I strong recommend it.
