I saw/I have seen (what is right?) an article about the aniversary of a terrible earthquake that happend in San Francisco 110 years ago, so I looked for more information on internet, and found this brief story:
The city of San Francisco sufferd a terrible earthquake on 18th April of 1906. That day, a magazine called Collier, called by telegraph to a writer, to came and make a report of what he saw. The name of the writer was Jack London. The name of the report he wrote was "The story of an eyewitness". So, hours after the earthquake, he arrived to the city.
The big problem was that whitin minutes of the earthquake the fire began. There was no organization, no comunication. The water pipes were burst, so they had no water to fight against the fire. The fire fighters thought that using explosives to destroy buildings they could stop the fire, so they used them and destroyed buildings and buildings without lucky.
Jack London saw people carrying their belongings and refugees all over the city. More than two hundred and fifty thousand (250.000) people los their homes. More than three thousand people died, but the real number of dead will never be known.
After three days, the fire stopped, just because it was nothing else to burn! the whole city was dissappear! It is said that more than one hundred thousand people left the city and never return.
