A sociological theory is a system of ideas that explain the human behavior, so sociologies have different approaches to the same circumstances of reality knowing that human behavior is a complex system which is not possible to understand from a single perspective. Regarding aging, the sociologists have different point of view of getting old and how such condition can affect society and vice-versa. There are three main theoretical approaches for aging which are Functional Perspective, Conflict Perspective,  and  Life Course Perspective. Contrasting and comparing these three theories is possible to say that the Functionalist Perspective sees aging as the elderly must obey to social circumstances and adapt psychologically to the new roles. Functionalists understand aging as a necessary process for society and retirement is necessary because opens new opportunities and positions to the youth. The criticism received by this theory is that older is seen as something that can be replaced ignoring the other advantages of maturity like experience and wisdom.  On the other hand,  Conflict Theory recognizes the social values of the elderly have is society. Conflict theory has negative comments about how the elders are treated in a capitalist society making them vulnerable and fragile. Life Course Perspective presents a more different way of seeing aging. This theory comments that elderly can not be seeing  as a passive actor in social dynamics, not  as a victim of the economic system either. Old people are active members of society  and with technological advances and more democratic educational system, every day is more frequent to see people who are retired being more active on social and cultural challenges. I believe that in the future, older people will become healthier that before giving them more chances to return society  back that they have been gained during their whole years of experiences.
