The Grupo de Estudos de Animais Selvagens (GEAS) is a national group that is present in several college institutions. In the North, the first GEAS was created in the Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia, and is now present in other institutions in the region. The aim of the group is to promote the interaction between students and professionals with issues related to the management, research and clinical of wild animals through the organization of events, lectures, internal studies and technical visits, among others. The aims of the research were to detail the actions carried out by GEAS UFRA in 2017, to disseminate the results of these activities and to analyze the contribution of the group to the formation of university students and the development of their critical vision. The group is managed by coordinators and students of several courses at the Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia, which promotes the integration of students from courses such as Forest Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science in the wild. The lectures of the GEAS are intended for the general public, always taking place between 12:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., once a month. Taking into account the five lectures that took place in 2017, the public had 496 people from various courses and institutions. The technical visits promoted by the group included visits to the Mangal das Garças Natural Park in Belém and the National Primate Center (CENP) in Ananindeua. The annual activity was the 3rd GEAS Workshop, debating the theme: The Importance of Fauna in the Elaboration and Implementation of Projects in the Amazon. Being aware of the scarcity of studies related to wild fauna at the Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia, the group has great importance as a promoter of actions that favor discussions on the subject at the University. The lectures and minicourses offered during the year 2017 showed how important it is to be updated in the debates related to the wild fauna, since it is an important agent in the environment and is present in the implementation of forestry projects, recovery of degraded areas, management and veterinary clinic.
