Charles E. Hummel states that our dilemma goes deeper than the shortage of time; it's basically a problem of priorities (1). People in today's society feel a constant pressure because of the amount of unfinished tasks they tend to leave behind. True, while most of us find ourselves devoting much of our time to family, professions and the places of god (church), that's if you're a spiritually-inclined person, how we really spend our time is what really matters. We as people often spend too much of our time putting off the important things we should do to take on the urgent demands of life. In other words, the constant pressures of people and life's demands can really distract one from the purpose and plan the Lord has for us. As we reflect on the tasks we just shunt aside we often feel and become oppressed. The answer to escaping this life lies in the promise and life of the Lord. We have done those things which we ought have not done, and we left undone those things which we ought to have done (Book of Common Prayer 1928). Which pretty much sums up how we as human waste our time on the things we don't need to do instead of doing the things that really matter. The way of escaping this cycle of living lies in the worship and prayer of our Lord Savior. To live a life without prayer is to live a life without God. How we spend our time depends on our goals. As easily it is to spend our money on things we don't necessarily need, it is just as easy it is for us to spend our time. Ultimately, there are four steps to improving the productivity of your life. Firstly, you need to decide what's important. We make time in the day for things we think are important. God has given us all different abilities, assignments, opportunities and personal needs. We need take time to consider how we really spend our time by taking account of how we are currently spending our time. Budget your hours and make small changes to your schedule that are possible for you. Finally, evaluate how you should really spend your time and follow through. Like Jesus, we need to prayerfully wait for our Lord instruction. God has a specific plan for each and every one of us. Life can be extremely chaotic and demanding at times, so it's understandable how one can lose focus of what's really important in life. We are all guilty of wasting time and energy on the urgent, rather than important. Taking time to plan out how we are currently spending our time versus how we should actually spend our time can really help someone set their priorities straight. We need to set better goal for ourselves and actually follow through with them. It is up to us whether we want to continue living as slaves of tyranny of the urgent or do we chose a life of freedom that lies in the life of the Lord.
