It seems good need not to choose a major, but I think most freshmen have a rather clear thought of what they want to study. I guess, those who majored in politics might get major in business, or the reverse may happen. But, most people will continue to major in their options. If they choose their majors before the first school period in a year, it has an advantage of finding whether they could like their majors. Or, if  they really like their majors, it has a merit of starting forehand while taking their course. So, I think it would be better to select their majors before they become freshmen.
