There could be a lot of reasons for attending college or university. I consider that the most important reason is to have a job and earn money once finished the degree in order to cover the living costs as a grown person. The college can be a hard and difficult experience, so why would people want to suffer in that way if they are comfortable with their parents? Whereas a lot of people prefer to live with their parents, the majority are looking for an independent life and the statistic say that if you don’t study your quality of life won’t be as good as if you have a degree.

Although earning money is one of the most common reasons to study, I believe, especially with the new generations that people are attending to college in order to learn what they like. In this way, the university can be even a pleasant thing because you can make money following your passion. For example, people who study medicine. They suffer learning a lot of things and too many years are needed to finish the degree, then a medical specialty could take four or five years more. Any person may think this a terrible experience but if you really like medicine, helping people and saving the life of other people, this could extremely gratifying, pleasant and an excellent way of earning a lot of money too.

But there are some cases where the situation is not as good as the one I wrote before. Here in my country, I know two or three people who were obligated to study a degree, which is not at all what they wanted. They were obligated to study what their parents decided. A friend of mine, whose desire was studying medicine had to study engineering. His father thought that he could, literally, starve studying something related to arts.
