This is a text I wrote to practise for an exam that I'm going to sit in a few days. I would love someone to help me out, I'll really appreciate it!
Why should local authorities fund public gardens over museums?
Recentely I attended a meeting whose aim was to discuss what facilities needed a financial support from the city council. As soon as I arrived I noticed there was a heated argument going on about whether the local authorities should give money to either museums or public gardens. For what it's worth, I leaned toward public gardens to be the best choice for the money of the city council.
First of all, any town needs green spaces and they are really appreciated by the community. Not only do they help people be healthier and fitter, but they also can be used for many other purposes, such as reading on a bench, facilitating social interaction or just taking the dog out for a walk. Besides, trees clean the pollution in the air and that's something we need to take into account. As a child I used to play in the park nearby my house, and if I hadn't had that green refuge I wouldn't have made so many friends nor have enjoyed so many Summer afternoons outside.
Secondly, local authorities should spend the money on the best interest of most people. Museums should not receive more money because they are no longer appealing to almost anyone. In addition, there are already too many museums in this town that remain empty. I am afraid that the public is not interested in the traditional boring concept of a museum to enjoy the arts anymore, but they want to be part of the art itself by participating in its various expressions.
To sum up, I strongly believe that funding green areas in the town will be beneficial for all of us, no matter our age, gender or way of life. Therefore, I would love you to join us at the sit-in we are carring out in the city council next Tuesday at 2:00 pm to demand a better, greener town.
