I've currently thought for a week that why I can't remember new English words ? I was trying to figure it out. And I think I found it so far. I just use some image of words to remember, insted of definition of words. And It's works so far because when I head some of the unclear words I try to find some pictures in my mind. Let's say when I don't know what does "Apple" mean?  It's easier to checking picture of it, insted of checking meaning of Apple.
