Should there be restrictions to freedom of speech in some cases?
持田哲男 Should there be restrictions to freedom of speech in some cases?
I agree with the statement that there should be restrictions on freedom of speech
in some cases. Let me elaborate on the three principal reasons that collectively underpin my position.
If what you want to say is not the truth, you cannot say it publicly. For example, The Asahi newspaper wrote a fake article that there was a sexual slave system led by Japan army in WW2 but that was not true. That was fake news and was a made-up story written by a writer.
After the article was issued, Japan got a lot of bad images from other countries.
Second, even if it is a fact but if it is related to personal matters, you cannot say it to the public.
For example, the emperor of Japan cannot argue against others' insists. Once Queen Michiko had got a mental illness that lost words. It was because a magazine wrote an article that criticized her. You cannot invade the privacy of anyone.
Third and finally, if it is facts that would hurt anyone’s mind, you cannot tell.
For example, my daughter is chubby. It is true she is too heavy but you cannot tell to her.
You cannot say the colors of skin, tall or short, ugly or not. Those are inherited and no one can say.
The reasons mentioned above oblige me to reiterate my position which supports the statement that freedom of speech should be restricted.
