Project proposal for facial recognition

Body

Artificial Intelligence is a reality in our days, and it is used in multiple ordinary tasks, such as text translation, virtual assistants as Alexa, music recommendation in similar platform to Spotify or film recommendation in similar platform to Netflix or HBO, or facial recognition. Regarding facial recognition, there are multiple platforms that are integrated into our society and we are using them every day. A wonderful example of facial recognition is already a reality, is in our smartphones. Lots of them have facial recognition for being unlocked and this application of artificial intelligence is very useful because the smartphones are a tool that we use every day for communicating and where we keep important data such as data from banks or the key of our life as the access to our social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc. Facial recognition also is used in smartphones in our photos, because some smartphones have the capacity of recognizing faces, and with the help of machine learning semi-supervised, it might be classified the photos in our own smartphones and labelling people faces, which are kept inside. Then, our smartphones are able to classify all different photos and assign a proper label. The company that made great progress in this field was Facebook. They can classify pretty well the photos that are uploaded on social media using the historical. Besides, Facebook can suggest who are the people that turn up in the new photos that it just is upload.

Have someone visited other  sites similar to  "The mixer": I mean the type of sites that are intended to create an enviroment where people from all over the world could find penpal and doing so excercise and improve their foreign language skills?

I have tried to use those sites chat, thinking that having to write rapidly responding to the topics that are treated could be a valid way to improve my fluence.

In my mind I thought that there would be there persons non native speakers of the language that they want to learn (in my case English) which are searching for a social exchange of point of view about various things or experiences or topics.

Sadly it occours to me that in every chat room I've landed, of the 10 or so people connected at the moment,  only two or three continuosly and rapidly are chatting between theirselves, in a way that suggest that they are native speaker and they knows each other well.

The times that I've tried to partecipate to the dialogue writing things about the treated subject, I saw that, due to the fact that I'm Italian, those "residents" promptly tend to virate to sports talking, especially about soccer teams, while if is an Arab who enter the discussion, they change the subject to religion or to Islam or things of those sort.

Am I wrong if I say so, in your experiences?

Or it's a sort of prejudice thing that afflicts the majority of us to judge people without great perspective?

I'm Italian, I have never got language courses, I've learned this little of English knowledge reading english books and watching english movies or interviews or Ted speaking.

Could anyone tell me why I have less problems to understand plain lessons about topics not familiar to me or also to understand chat to wich I casually assist between english people than to follow easily some  english movie dialogues or some english songs?

Forgive my poor writing skills: I think in Italian and then mentally translate in English...

(evidently not using online translator or automatic correctors)

Learning a second language

Body

I've been trying to think about a nice topic to write about, but I guess I'm just not that creative. So I'm just going to talk about myself and my experience with learning English.

My name is Amanda, I'm 26 years old and from Brazil. I lived in the US for almost three years during an exchange program I was on, and that was by far the best experience I've ever had. I think my English is somehow good, but I know I still have a lot to learn. And honestly? Becoming fluent in a language other than your native language is a forever working in progress I would say. Well, I hope this website helps me finding someone interested in helping me to improve my abilities of speaking English. And I would be more than honored to help you with some Portuguese learning as well!
