Review: What's your favourite album?

Body

Without doubt, my favourite album is This Is Acting by Sia. The album is mostly composed of songs written by Sia for other pop artists that weren't included on their albums. Putting in like that, it seems as if these songs couldn't cut the mustard. However, the album did reach top 5 in several markets, including the US, UK and the artist's native Australia.

The album consists of upbeat pop rhythms and motivational lyrics, conveying the will to overcome one's fears like no other album. Moreover, the singer's vocals are incredible throughout the album, delighting the listener with each note. The title derives from the fact that these songs were written by Sia as if channeling other artists. For instance, the lead single Alive was originally co-written with Adele and Tobias Jesso Jr for Adele's third album and it's based on her life, not on Sia's. Even if it's rather commercial music, the album is considered concept music and this is partly because the artist has never given up her own ideas and ways, regardless her success.

In short, having greatly overcome the initial rejection of its songs, this pop, energetic, album shows us all how real it is that failure teaches success. This is an album for daydreamers, for people who need to build confidence, for every high achiever in any aspect of life really.

What I have learned in the last year

Body

The last year was a pretty tough one for everyone around the globe. Yet another pandemic has shaked our planet.

How many unexpected events have happened, how much  suffering people endured, and social isolation was not an easy one on many.

As human beings we are social creatures and need one another. Being shutdown at homes and in fear - what a miserable life to imagine in our generation of traveling around the world in one day.

However, the technology helped many to stay tuned. People learned fast how to use social platforms and got engaged in different activities. I feel happy that I was able to start a meeting group on  zoom platform for older adults so they feel happier.

During covid time I started a new hobby - learning Greek, so I can talk to my Greek friends when I see them again. It helped me to keep my brain occupied and less stressed during the pandemic.

By chance I learned about a mixxer language group, and I'm looking forward to meeting people with whom I can continue learning English and Greek.

My big hope is that the covid-19 will be over soon and people can restart their lives again.

Proposal: About the old cinema building

Body

Introduction

This proposal is aimed at outlining the disadvantages of constructing the cinema complex at the expense of destroying the current building. It will suggest what improvements can be made and also set out how this would benefit the local people.

Why preserve this historic building

A lovely Victorian building as it is, this edifice was originally the accommodation of one of the most popular writers of all times, Mark Twain. It would be a shame to build a complex from the ground up having this magnificent piece of art delighting each and every visitor of the cinema.

How it could be modernised

One of the reasons to tear it down is that it is getting behind the times and decrepit as a consequence of negligence. However, the building is not to blame for that, and it should be shown some respect. The solution is as easy as to restore the parts that are being torn apart and ensure the interior is full of modern facilities for the comfort of the visitors.

The benefits of keeping the building for local people

The popularity of the cinema and former house of Mark Twain fills the residents with pride and encourages tourism to the point of being in the top ten most visited places in its region. To lose the building would suppose losing this, a tragic occurrence for the locals.

Recommendations

I would like to make the following recommendations in order to modernise the installations:

- Make free WIFI available, not only to ensure visitors can communicate with the outside world, but also to provide them with the opportunity to inform themselves about the film they are seeing or to scan the QR codes throughout the building.

- Improve the bathrooms. They lack proper lighting and a larger amount of hygiene products such as soap and toilet paper.

- Put in at least one lift for people with reduced mobility.

If these recommendations are in place, the visitors will benefit from all the advantages of a modern cinema complex and still share the matter of pride of local people.

Lithium Rush

Body

This century is going to be powered by an element which is relatevly aboundant, but not so easy to find anywhere, I mean lithium.

Bolivia and Chile have the largest terrains with lithium high concentration, and with the rising search of materials to make bateries for our cellphones, laptops, and the new and growing electric car market, lithium have became the new white gold in these recent years.

I think that it's also important for us to learn how to recycle this element, because as we already know there's no infinite element in this planet, specially minerals.

Chinese space program

Body

Some time ago (in June) China launched a skyrocket crewd with three people, and it became the most numerous crew to date.

The mission of this crew is to put the new China's space station into service. That space station has some new technology as a Hubble-class telescope and other equipment to do cientific experiments and look all the effects of that in the space condicions.

This new space station adds to the noumerous achievments of chinese space endeavours, since China recently has bring moon rocks and soil from the mission on the far side of the moon, a unique mission of his kind. And recently the Asian country putted a six wheeled high tech robot on Mars surface.

It's important to note that all these achievments have been reached with the country out of the international space program by political decisions. I hope all countries may co-operate togeter at future in cientific work, independently of political rulers desicions. In that way all humanity will be benefited.

In June it was launched a skyrocket with three chinese people who have the mission to put the china's space station into service.

This is the most numerous crew launch mad by China and is part of the Chinese Space Program wich also have recently setted rovers on Mars and Moon. Those missions have a quite high level of complexity taking into account that the Moon landing is a mission made on the dark moon side, the first moon exploration of its kind. And the Mar's one is a very similar to the worldwide well known 'Perseverance' mission.

It's quite enriching for the space investigation what China's space program is working on in this moment.

Sponsorship: a double-edged sword

Body

In this day and age, everything is about money. From school teams to elite athletes, all kinds of sport organisations, as well as their patrons, benefit from sponsorship. But, there is no rose without a thorn, right?

On the one hand, there is no doubt that the financial support provided by sponsors are crucial for today's sport. Among other things, individuals rely on economic help to cover their travel and accommodation fees, clubs need it for equipment and their clubhouses' maintenance and, on top of that, publicity of events would be nonexistent without it.

On the other hand, sponsorship is business, which, in turn, is based on the law of supply and demand. Hence, the support for next season, next event, is not guaranteed. In addition, this dependency on patronage is unfair for minor teams or sports, which are less attractive to do business with.

Finally, sport institutions must be careful about what sponsors they engage with. Sponsorship is not only about backing, but about image as well. Although most patrons give a neutral appearance, some companies, as alcohol products providers, can damage teams' image.

All things considered, I believe that the relationship between business and sport in this sense is highly beneficial but also complex. The necessity for economic help derives from the way our society is constructed and, as long as money continues being required, sponsorship will continue to be indispensable.
